Deceptively short, deceptively small and deceptively simple, George Berkeley’s masterpiece will blow your mind.💦 It’s the original reason I got hard doing philosophy, and it’s still sexy as shit years later. 🤤

Proving it’s not the size that matters, but what you do with it, Berkeley obliterates the way we understand the world with his small powerful piece, leaving everything teetering on the edge of absolute chaos – then, like a classic hero, he saves it all by bringing in God at the last moment. 😇 Phew! 🙏 Well, phew for him back in his day. Trouble is, God doesn’t cut it in modern society, leaving us in a world full of illusionary experiences worse than any demon or evil AI could inflict.😈 Three hundred years later Berkeley’s ideas are still fucking with everything we know and becoming more and more important to fields like neuroscience as we tackle how we understand the world around us. 👁️⁉️

Has this got anything to do with fucking? 🤔Wasn’t Berkeley a highly religious, pure sort of chap who didn’t write anything about naughty old sex? 🫣  He was, but his ideas still relate.  Berkeley focused on the importance of the mind in creating the world. 🌏 Our ideas are easily shaped and not set in stone, therefore neither is our world. The mind has a huge influence on not only how we feel but how we perceive things. 👀 This means Berkeley recommended not being too rigid about our ideas but always questioning things and being open to new ideas because believing in the wrong things creates shitty worlds for ourselves. 🙈
