It feels like my most important moment of the day. I run to the roof or the beach or the street to catch the setting sun. I’m sad when I miss it or forget to look for it. I started painting sunsets years ago to escape into warm fantasies. 🌴🌊☀️ I think I painted my first sunset in the deep dark depressing January or February that hits seattle every year. Seasonal “wtf do I live here?! mood disorder”. Right now I’m experimenting with making small sunsets — 8”x12” on wood with acrylic and spray paint. I’m layering up the textures so the paintings are thick and pop off the canvas with interesting depth. I paint mountains in front of the sunset horizon so with the modeling goop I can actually form mountains that lift up and come at you. You can run your fingers along their ridges.
