In 2004 I wrote my first artist statement: I am crocheting, making the sculpture for my body, in which my body becomes the ready-made. The βcoverβ completely redefines my movement and my identity β sexual, personal and cultural. Then I take the end of the plastic twine and by ripping it apart, I start remaking it. When the βnewβ suit of armor is ready I am being exposed as an object. Then I put this hand-crocheted wearable sculpture onto my body and take the end of the twine and undo the 'cover' again and again. I crochet and crochet onto my body until I have reached a point where I know I could go on forever.
The words on paper became a reality when I was able for the first time to perform this piece in 2009 for International Womenβs Day. I was not able to show this video before as it contains full nudity. This year, on March 8th, I will release the footage here only for you.
