Sometimes, when you’re feeling disconnected and stuck, when you don’t feel ready to be part of the world, an opportunity will knock at your door to remind you of who you are.
To walk into a room full of people with my image on a mural, I cringed from the immense attention on me. But the more I soaked in my bare body on grand scale, the more I felt humbled. Camilo reached out to me to create this site-specific piece because of my past work as a queer Korean-American sex liberator and a community builder in NY, and to be recognized and spotlighted for the work I’ve put in over the years is an affirmation that your worth is not measured by how immobile you feel in this moment, but the fight, patience, generosity, and love you’ve laid down along the way. Your presence is larger than life. It fills a room, wall to wall, corner to corner.
Sometimes, sharing yourself honestly and openly will mean more to others than you expect. Sometimes, it will mean more to you than you expect.
