While I’ve been in Korea visiting family, it’s given me opportunity to brush up on my Korean language proficiency, which is pretty lacking. I don’t have many opportunities to use it in NYC, and even the communications between my parents and me is property broken. But being an environment where I have to use it is making me realize there’s a lot more knowledge that lays dormant than I realized. I’m pushing myself every day to mainly speak in Korean, and my cousins who are my age speak English as well and it’s been a relief being able to communicate halfway and teach each other to speak each other’s languages better. Certain vocabulary or expressions I’ve always heard but never really understood are making sense. My pronunciation is getting better. I feel less timid to speak, even when I know I sound silly. I’m probably speaking Korean the best I ever have. 너무 신기해—it’s really interesting ! (:
