Carl's Experience with Erectile Dysfunction: Information and Advice

Have you ever felt that, at the most important moment, your body doesn't respond as you expected? That's something Carl recently experienced, and we want to share this story with you to shed light on a topic that's more common than you might think.

What Is Erectile Dysfunction?
Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is the persistent or recurrent inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual activity. It affects men of all ages, although it becomes more frequent as we get older. According to studies, around 40% of men over 40 years old have experienced some form of erectile dysfunction (Rosen et al., 1997).

Our Story
We've been creating adult content together for two years, and Carl has always been a very sexually active person—whether solo, with adult content, or with me. However, in recent months, we noticed that on some occasions he found it difficult to maintain an erection in front of the cameras. This not only surprised us but also made us reflect on the possible causes.

Common Indicators and Causes
Erectile dysfunction can be due to multiple factors, organic and psychological:

Stress and Anxiety: Work pressure, worries, or tensions in the relationship can affect sexual performance. In our case, we've been traveling for over a year, and although it's an amazing experience, it involves handling many tasks, which generates quite a bit of stress.

Lifestyle Habits: Excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, and lack of physical activity can negatively influence sexual function. Additionally, everything in excess can be harmful, including the frequency of ejaculation. Carl used to ejaculate more than once a day, which could have contributed to his situation.

Oversaturation: Constantly creating videos and being exposed to sexual content all day may have led to a decrease in arousal and sexual response.

Medical Issues: Conditions like diabetes, hypertension, or hormonal imbalances can also be factors.

Our Path to a Solution
We shared this experience with a member of this wonderful family, Miguel, who, besides being a fan, is a highly recognized urologist and expert in this field. We told him about the situation we were going through, and with total professionalism and empathy, he provided information that encouraged Carl to have a virtual consultation with him.

Miguel explained that erectile dysfunction is a treatable condition and recommended the following:

Specialized Medical Consultations: It's important to see a professional to identify specific causes and receive appropriate treatment.

Lifestyle Changes: Although we strive to maintain a healthy diet and exercise regularly, we recognized that we were overloaded with responsibilities. We decided to disconnect from work at certain times and engage in activities that help us reduce stress.

Balancing Sexual Activity: We reduced the frequency of ejaculations and set healthy limits to avoid oversaturation, allowing desire and arousal to regenerate naturally.

In addition to these changes, we considered it important to complement them with sexological treatment.

The Importance of Sexological Treatment
As part of my studies in sexology, I knew there are exercises and therapies that can help manage performance anxiety and improve sexual response. We decided to implement these exercises to support Carl's process:

Therapeutic Exercises: We established intimate moments without pressure, applying techniques like sensate focus. These exercises focus on mutual enjoyment without the expectation of achieving an erection, intercourse, or ejaculation. The goal is to reduce performance anxiety, improve the couple's connection, and refocus attention on pleasure and emotional intimacy.

Reducing Performance Anxiety: By eliminating the pressure to "perform" in a certain way, Carl was able to relax and enjoy the moment more, which in turn improved his confidence and sexual response.

Did You Know...?
Erectile dysfunction is one of the most common and studied conditions in clinical sexology, being one of the most frequent consultations in this field.

Studies indicate that up to 30% of men between 18 and 24 years old have experienced symptoms of ED (Landripet & Štulhofer, 2015).

Performance anxiety is one of the most common psychological causes of ED, where the fear of failure creates a vicious cycle that affects sexual response.

A Message for You
We want to share this experience because we know many men go through similar situations, and it's not always easy to talk about it. Erectile dysfunction is not something to be ashamed of. Recognizing it and seeking help is the first step toward a solution.

If you're facing something similar, we encourage you to:

Talk to Your Partner: Open communication is essential. Your partner's first thought might be "they're not attracted to me," which can generate frustration and disconnection. Sharing how you feel can strengthen the relationship and help find solutions together.

Consult a Professional: A specialist can guide you toward appropriate treatment. There are medical and sexological treatments that can significantly help.

Take Care of Yourself: A healthy lifestyle notably improves sexual function.

We will continue sharing more information and advice in upcoming posts based on our experience and my studies in sexology. We're here to support you!

If you want more information or need to consult a specialist, we recommend Dr. Miguel Osorio (@dr.miguelosorio), who has been of great help to us.
