BUT…you should not mistake the relaxed attitude of authorities and law enforcement with the fact that everything is allowed and permitted. Thailand is still a very conservative country to its core and, although the society can appear open and tolerant at the surface, there are still many instances that are not accepted. Sex and things surrounding about sex are an example. Despite the abundance of red-light districts, sex is still considered an extremely private area of life. Thai people very seldom show emotions or kiss in public, and, for older generations, even holding hands when walking outside is not convenient. Also sex education, most often than not, leans towards the negative consequences of sex over teaching how do deal emotionally and physically with it. All summed up, you shouldn’t be surprised that adult contents are considered “a disruption to peace in society” and publishing them is technically punishable by up to 5 years, a very substantial fine, or both. And…what about sex toys? Well, owning or selling toys carries up to 3 years and another substantial fine. So be careful when you are preparing your luggage for coming here, remember that security in the airport will scan your stuff! 🤣 [Ok, don’t really worry, as long as you are not bringing an entire collections of dildos]. So how can all of this go along with the (in)famous areas in Thailand? Honestly, I don’t have an answer, and one of the fascinating things about Thailand is its lack of logic and the puzzling feelings that you have everyday when stay here. Some less naive people might say that earning online will feed just your mouth, while having a physical bar in a strategic area will feed multiple ones…but I’m a very naive person 😜 2.
