It’s been awhile since we’ve touched on Vet Tech advice🐕🐱
It’s summer time! 🌞
Here are some pet advice for the summer:
1. Provide plenty of fresh water: Make sure your pet has access to clean and fresh water at all times, especially during hot weather. Consider adding ice cubes to their water bowl to help keep it cool. 💦
2. Keep them cool: Provide a shaded and well-ventilated area for your pet to relax in. You can also use cooling mats or wet towels for them to lie on. Avoid leaving your pet in a hot car, as temperatures can rise dangerously within minutes. 🔥
3. Avoid hot pavement: Asphalt and concrete can get very hot during summer days, which can burn your pet's paws. Try to walk them on grass or in shaded areas, and avoid walking them during the hottest parts of the day. 🌳
4. Protect them from the sun: Just like humans, pets can get sunburned too. Apply pet-safe sunscreen to areas of exposed skin, such as the nose and ears. Provide them with shade when they're outside, and consider using a pet-friendly sunshade or umbrella.☂️
5. Watch out for heatstroke: Dogs and cats can easily overheat, leading to heatstroke, which can be life-threatening. Be aware of the signs of heatstroke, such as excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, and vomiting. If you suspect your pet has heatstroke, seek veterinary help immediately.🐶
6. Adjust exercise routines: Avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest parts of the day. Instead, schedule walks and playtime in the early morning or evening when temperatures are cooler. Keep an eye on your pet for signs of exhaustion or overheating during exercise.🦮
7. Prevent fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes: Summer is prime time for these pests. Use appropriate preventive measures, such as flea and tick treatments, and consider using pet-safe mosquito repellents. Regularly check your pet for any signs.🪲
